Paying from a regular wallet
Updated
A payout from a regular wallet is paid from Payclose, in your browser. Payclose builds each transfer from the approved lines; your wallet shows it before you confirm, signs it and sends it. Payclose never holds funds or keys.
Before you pay
- Owners and editors pay. Approvers see where each line stands, but don’t pay.
- Use the browser that has the wallet extension with the payout’s wallet in it, such as MetaMask or Rabby.
- Have the payout’s tokens in that wallet, and ETH on the payout’s network for the fees.
Pay the payout
In Next step, at Step 3 of 5: Paying:
- Select Connect wallet. Payclose names the account it expects, as in “Connect 0xf39F…2266: this payout pays from it.” If the wallet is on another account, switch to the payout’s account in the extension; the page follows.
- If needed, select Switch to Base, or whichever network the payout is on.
- Payclose checks the balances through your wallet: the tokens for the lines left, and whether there’s ETH for the fees. If something is short, it says how much (“Not enough in the wallet for the lines left.”) and the pay button waits: top up, then select Check again. When all is well, it says “Connected as 0xf39F…2266 on Base; the balances cover the lines left.”
- Select Pay 4 lines (the button counts the lines left) and confirm in your wallet.
One transaction, or one per line
- One transaction. If your wallet can send several transfers as one transaction on this network (EIP-5792 atomic batches), it asks once: “Your wallet asks once: one transaction pays every line.” Some wallets first offer to upgrade your account so they can do this.
- One per line. Otherwise, your wallet asks once for each line: “Your wallet asks 4 times, once per line. Each transaction is recorded as soon as it is sent.” If you decline the upgrade, or the wallet can’t send the batch after all, Payclose switches to one per line and waits for you to press the button again. Declining the payment itself sends nothing, and you can pay later.
When a single line is left, it’s always paid with one plain transaction.
Declines and Continue
When paying one line at a time, Payclose records each transaction as soon as your wallet returns its hash, before it asks for the next one. If you decline one, the rest wait: “You declined the transaction for Priya Nair. 2 of 4 sent: Continue pays the 2 left.” The button then reads Continue.
You can close the tab between two transactions: what was sent is recorded. If your wallet sent a transaction and Payclose couldn’t record it, because the connection dropped for example, this browser keeps its hash, and Next step asks you to Record it now before paying again, so no line is paid twice from Payclose.
If you switch your wallet to another network halfway, Payclose stops before the next transaction and asks you to switch back, then Continue. Payclose records up to 10 transactions a minute; with more lines than that, it pauses and carries on by itself.
Each line shows where it stands: To pay, In your wallet, Sent or Paid.
When a transaction fails
If a transaction reverts, pays none of the lines, or isn’t confirmed by the network within 24 hours because the wallet dropped or replaced it, Payclose marks it as failed and its lines go back to To pay. Next step says which and why, for example “The transaction for Mei Lin failed: it reverted on chain. Nothing was paid; its line is to pay again.” The owners get an email too. Pay those lines again once you know what went wrong.
Warning. If your wallet still shows a failed transaction as pending, cancel it in the wallet before you pay its lines again, or they could be paid twice.
Paid outside Payclose
If you paid lines of this payout from its wallet outside Payclose, record the transaction: select Paid outside Payclose? Paste the transaction hash, paste the hash from your wallet’s activity or the block explorer, and select Record the payment. Payclose reads the receipt and finds the lines it paid among those still to pay.
It takes the hash only if the transaction came from the payout’s wallet, pays at least one line that’s still to pay, isn’t recorded for another payout, and came after the payout was sent for approval. Until a pasted transaction is checked, paying the rest waits: Payclose first needs to know which lines it paid.
After paying
Once every line is sent, the payout is Confirming until the network confirms each transaction. Payclose then compares the transfers with the approved lines, and the payout becomes Reconciled. While the page is open, it checks by itself about every half minute and when you come back to the tab; Check now checks at once. See Reconciliation.
If an address in the payout is revoked or replaced after it was sent, the lines left can’t be paid from Payclose. The lines already paid stay on record, and what was sent is still checked on the network.
